The rivers and streams of the Eagle River watershed are coveted around the globe as world-class locations to recreate in everything from whitewater rafting and kayaking to fly fishing and tubing. However all the use the rivers receive takes a toll. To protect our rivers and streams and to give back to an ecosystem that provides so much to us, each fall, we get down and dirty for a day of cleaning along our waterways.

The annual Eagle River Cleanup, presented by Vail Resorts EpicPromise, is a hallmark event of the Watershed Council and one that exhibits the dedication of our mountain community. More than 350 volunteers from local businesses, organizations, families and friends annually show their commitment to conserving our beautiful valley by forming teams to clean up over 68 miles of Eagle County rivers and streams.

We strive to make the cleanups fun for all ages, as well as productive and we encourage our teams to submit their interesting trash discoveries from the day. Following the event, we announce the winner of the Most Unusual Piece of Trash Award, who will have the honor of keeping Bigmouth Billy Bass, a singing fish trophy, for one year in honor of their unique find!

To join this great effort, please call Eagle River Watershed Council at (970) 827-5406 or email cleanup@erwc.org to confirm your usual segment, sign up for a new one, or join an existing team. Pre-registration is required as teams are assigned specific waterway sections and planning is required to ensure safety and event regulations are observed. Those that cannot attend, but want to support the event should call Eagle River Watershed Council to learn more about sponsorship or donate online at erwc.org.
