To highlight the special role that water plays in the life cycles of birds and celebrate February’s theme of love, the Watershed Council has collaborated with National Audubon Society to share the news that Birds Love Water.

Why is water important to birds?

They – and most everything else – can’t survive without it.

Did You Know?

  • About 400 species of birds depend on riparian habitats, wetlands, and marshes that dot the Colorado River. 
  • Birds are crucial to our ecosystems, and they play a vital role in our intricate food webs.
  • Water is particularly important to birds during the winter when natural supplies may be frozen and in dry, hot weather during the summer when water can be hard to find.
